Positive Camtec Sign Teckwin Distribution Agreement for QLD with Sign Essentials Pty Ltd

Positive Camtec Pty Ltd is pleased to announce that they have signed an Exclusive Distribution Agreement with Sign Essentials Pty Ltd to offer the Teckwin product range to the Queensland market. The agreement covers the entire Teckwin Printer range, Consumables and service.

The First Teckwin TeckStorm R Arrives In Australia

The TeckStorm R True Flatbed and Roll to Roll UV Printer has arrived in Australia following a successful launch throughout the American and European markets. Based on the very successful TeckStorm, the High Quality UV Flatbed Printer from Teckwin, the TeckStorm R adds on a true Roll-to-Roll module offering roll-to-roll printing and true flatbed printing in the one unit.

During recent Trade Shows throughout the world the Teckwin TeckStorm R has been highly regarded by Industry Professionals as “THE UV Printer Of Choice” due to its build quality, astounding print resolution and a print speed that completes the best price to performance ratio in its class. “By far the best print quality of all UV-printers here at the show” was a comment heard often throughout the exhibitions.

As a true flatbed printer it offers an 8 section vacuum bed enabling excellent media stability, precise registration and edge-to-edge printing on all sides. The registration pins result in fast and accurate alignment of sheet material. Maximum print area is 2440mm x 1220mm allowing standard sheet sizes up to 50mm thick to be easily accommodated.

As a true roll-to-roll printer it supports direct printing to a range of flexible media including SAV, Banner, PP Film, Paper, Canvas, Wallpaper, Backlit etc. It supports automatic media unwind and rewind for media up to 50kg and 1800mm in width.

“The real benefit of Teckwin’s roll-to-roll system is that the flexible media does not travel over the flatbed area, allowing for rigid sheet printing without removing the flexible roll” said Philip Trumble, Positive Camtec’s Technical Director. “The TeckStorm R really does offer the best of both worlds for UV Printing – true flatbed and true roll-to-roll in the one machine.”

The high-resolution Xaar XJ760 6 Level Variable Dot print heads utilised by the TeckStorm R produce astounding print quality - even 4-point type is clear and legible! Offering print resolutions up to 1440 dpi, TeckStorm R sets the benchmark for Grand Format print quality. Printing with blazing speed of up to 24m² / hour in production mode the TeckStorm outperforms the competition.

For ultimate versatility, the TeckStorm R boasts two dedicated print heads for white ink. “White can either be printed as an underlay, overlay or as a spot colour resulting in a broad variety of applications including printing onto transparent and dark materials such as glass, acrylic, backlit films, clear films and coloured boards” comments Philip.

The UV Inks are automatically agitated to prevent settling or separating of the pigments. Teckwin’s patented White Ink maintenance system runs automatically and includes ink agitation at both the main and sub tanks along with ink recirculation throughout the system to prevent settling. The ink degassing system automatically removes micro air bubbles reducing nozzle outage and increasing drop placement accuracy.

“The TeckStorm R has two UV lamps on each side of the print head to facilitate bi-directional printing” said Johnny Qiu, Positive Camtec’s Teckwin Certified Field Engineer. “The UV lamp shutter system reduces the amount of heat exposure resulting in the ability to print a wider variety of materials. The UV Lamp power and shutters can easily be software controlled by the user to customise the curing system to suit the media to be printed.”

All Teckwin printers have passed CE certification proving that operator safety is of prime concern to Teckwin. The UV Lamps are covered by the Safety Hood, rather than being open and exposed as with other competing machines. Extraction fans and vents are fitted to remove ozone and can be easily connected to an external extraction unit.

Signkiosk Take Delivery Of The First Epson GS6000 in NSW

In March 2009 Signkiosk.com Pty Ltd, based in Marrickville NSW, took delivery of the first Epson GS6000 to be installed in the State and the second in Australia. Although the machine has had bumper reviews throughout the world since its release, we decided to take a trip down to meet the team and ask them a few questions about their experience so far with the Epson printer and the backup service and support from Positive Camtec.

PC: Can you tell us brief history of the Bolan family in the Sign Industry?

SK: Signwriting for the Bolan family is a tradition; it all began just after WW2, when Frank Bolan, a returned serviceman, started his trade with Gene Wilson. Through the years he partnered up with legendary Signmaster and famous Australian artist Darcy Doyle, goldleaf masters Ronny Suiter, Norm King and the Sign Man himself in all aspects Greg Bolan.

Frank had four sons, they all took up the brush, all still in the sign trade in one way or another. The eldest son Moyle Bolan Senior had 3 sons Greg, Brett and Shane and started Ace High Signs in the early 1970's. Greg and Brett joined their father and did their time and still work together today.

The third brother Shane did a neon glass bending apprenticeship with Barton Neon and worked along side with Jimmy Arnold, Norm Barton and Choi. All great and well respected Neon Men.

Greg and Brett started Bolan signs in the 80's. Brett had two sons Moyle and Michael; they did their apprenticeships with their father and uncle and have also experienced working in other sign shops.

The new fourth generation signwriters/makers are carrying on the sign tradition and now have started Signkiosk.com. With Uncle and father the two boys have a strong future in Sign Industry and the Bolan legacy lives on.

PC: When was Signkiosk established?

SK: Signkiosk.com Pty Ltd was established nearly 3 years ago and consist of 4 staff members: Greg Bolan (Designer), Brett Bolan (General Manager), Moyle Bolan (Sign Fabricator) and Michael Bolan (Director). The close knit family team have all been involved with Signkiosk.com Pty Ltd since it’s inception.

PC: What type of signage do you offer?

SK: Our vast knowledge and experience allows us to cover all aspects of sign making & installations in all locations. From general signs, digital printing, vinyl cutting, metal, wood & acrylic signs to light boxes, fabricated illuminated signs, vehicles, neon, engraving and CNC routing. We are also one of the few companies to be official Liquid Metal applicators.

PC: Why did you decide to purchase the EPSON GS6000?

SK: Greg Bolan has been involved in large format printing for years and he has been following the development of this printer since it was first rumored a couple of years ago. We already knew the benefits of using multi-colour inksets based on our experiences with our other solvent and aqueous printers, some of which we converted ourselves and made our own profiles. When the Epson was released, we knew we had to have it.

PC: What other technologies did you look at? i.e. solvent, UV, LED etc?

SK: We looked all other printing technologies to date, but the Epson GS6000 best fitted our criteria for the highest resolution and 8 colour printing offering the extended colour gamut that our customers demand.

PC: What were your expectations of the GS6000 prior to purchase?

SK: Being an Epson, we expected it to perform, but it has exceeded our expectations with ease of use, resolution and zero banding issues (the Epson Microweave technology is amazing)! Pantone colour matching from the Ergosoft PosterPrint RIP is very accurate and we have produced exceptional backlit images with two or even three ink layers without any bleeding or banding. We must admit, we were at first skeptical, but the Epson has really performed.

PC: Have your impressions changed since the arrival of printer?

SK: Typically, you either get speed or quality from a digital printer; the Epson GS6000 gives us both. It’s actually performing even better than expected, so good in fact that it will replace our two other solvent printers and most likely the 12 colour printer we reserved for producing our highest quality backlit (we’ve printed lots of backlit lately and haven’t used that printer since the day the Epson arrived!!).

We are very impressed with the maintenance issue - there is no issue. We’ve printed rolls and rolls of banner and vinyl since it was installed - no banding, no fade outs, no colour shifts through the print, no ‘zebra striping’, no dropouts, no drips, no blocked jets, not one. Greg loves the design of the material feed, vacuum and take-up reel - it tracks and feeds perfectly.

PC: Why did you choose to work with Positive Camtec?

SK: Positive Camtec have a reputation in the industry as a solid, honest, no-nonsense company with exceptional customer and back up services. We have been associated with Positive Camtec for over 20 years back when we bought our first signmaking software from them, so naturally we knew they would look after us.

PC: How do you feel currently about the pre sale, sale, delivery and the machine?

SK: Adriano from Positive Camtec was very knowledgeable and very helpful on the presale and sale of the printer. He answered all the hard questions we put to him, no jargon or company rhetoric - just straight honest answers.

The delivery and installation went flawlessly (even though we had to use a crane to put it through our second story window where our printing department is.) Greg Bolan, our designer who runs our printers, was very impressed with Scott Donkin, the colour guru at Positive Camtec. Scott’s knowledge of colour and his ability to explain even the most technical issues in an easy to grasp fashion had Michael Bolan (who hasn’t used a large format printer - as he left all that, and the hassle that goes with it, to the more experienced Greg Bolan) outputting fantastic prints from the Ergosoft PosterPrint RIP to the Epson GS6000 on his first day.

PC: What difference has it made / do you project it will make to your production?

It has streamlined production in that we’re using the one rip with the one printer to produce our work, instead of the multiple rips, profiles, printers and file format nuances. We are finally able to really replace cut vinyl work with prints from the Epson. We simply couldn’t match corporate colours and achieve that “solid vinyl look” without “dither” on our other solvent printers (even with the addition of Orange and Green ink and our custom profiles). The Epson achieves it with ease! This in itself is a great boon to production. Yesterday we printed fourteen 2.2m x 1.5m banners, then switched material and printed the finest of fashion photography advertising on backlit, it’s amazing.

PC: Do you feel that having the Epson GS6000 will help to open new markets? If so, which ones?

SK: It will bring in more work due to the fact that you can achieve quality suitable for fine art and photo studio’s that once before was only in the realm of aqueous based printers. The Epson GS6000 though will do it much more economically. We used to print high-end images on our 12 colour machine, which costs a fortune in ink, media and maintenance time...all that’s changed!

Face it, no solvent printer could ever produce an image like a dye based aqueous printer, but the Epson GS6000 can and does.

PC: How you found the support and service at Positive Camtec so far?

SK: They have been exceptionally helpful, every inch of the way, in every aspect. Positive Camtec are a top team with an abundance of knowledge – the kind of knowledge that you can only gain from experience. All questions are answered, never shrugged off and they’re nice guys too!

Dispute between Coldenhove Papier and Cham Paper Group Settled

Cham-Tenero Paper Mills Inc. (Cham Paper Group – brand name Transjet®) and W.A. Sanders Papierfabriek, Coldenhove BV (Coldenhove Papier – brand name Jetcol®) recently settled their dispute and have signed an agreement regarding digital dye-sublimation transfer paper. Cham Paper Group will continue to manufacture and sell Cham's digital transfer paper Transjet®. The parties have agreed not to disclose the details of the agreement.

Positive Camtec are pleased to announce their new logo and corporate design, to be formally launched at the upcoming Visual Impact Image Expo in Darling Harbour, Sydney. The new logo design was borne as a team effort by involving all staff members over many months to ensure that the new logo was one that neatly reflected the company as a whole.

The fresh, modern design epitomizes the Positive Camtec of today – progressive, dynamic and adaptable. Furthermore, the company’s slogan of “integrated solutions.” is defined by the new logo offering a clear and concise picture of Positive Camtec.

“The new logo and corporate design accurately reflects the dynamic and professional team at Positive Camtec” said Adriano Gut, Sales & Marketing Manager. “Although our old design has been an easily recognised image in the industry for many years, it lacked a clear picture of the Positive Camtec you will meet in 2008 and beyond.”

The team at Positive Camtec were very pleased to invite an excited crowd to their Open House held on the 17th of September 2008. An open invitation to the industry and press attracted just under 70 visitors on the day and all were amazed at the new and innovative equipment on show. Guests were treated to a range of samples printed by the new TeckStorm UV Printer – everything from doors to canvas to wall tiles had been printed and the quality was judged by all to be amazing.

Special industry guests were pleased to be involved with the day, supporting the efforts of Positive Camtec to educate the industry on international trends and the latest technology. Guests included John Hadfield of Knowledge Information Management (KiM), Don McCallum from XAAR, Greg Sharan of Finance@Work, Tim Loader from Tekcel CNC Machinery, Jeff Kline from Ergosoft, Andreas Johanssen from Epson and Mark O’Rourke from Megawood.

A highlight of the open house was the demonstration of the latest Print-To-Cut technology, which is a marrying of print technologies from Teckwin and router cutting technology from Tekcel. After brief presentations from Positive Camtec’s Managing Director Ray Clarke and Technical Director Phil Trumble highlighting the origins of Positive Camtec and the benefits of the system, a full demonstration of the print-to-cut technology was shown.

Graphics printed by the TeckStorm UV printer were placed onto the Tekcel Verso router and the cutting path was automatically aligned and adjusted to suit the graphics by the OptiCAM Auto Registration system. OptiCAM has been completely developed in-house by Tekcel ensuring complete integration into the Verso router - automatically adjusting the cutting path for slant and distortion. Even prints purposely positioned out of alignment were easily and accurately cut.
“The OptiCAM represents a huge leap forward in technology,” said Ray Clarke, “offering a true CNC Router with unmatched print-to-cut alignment – even automatically adjusting for distortion or size discrepancies.”

“The TeckStorm UV printer opens so many new avenues by printing onto a wide variety of materials, not only your typical lightweight materials like corflute and foam board, but products like timber, composite aluminium, acrylic even laminated chipboard and Colorbond, ” said Philip Trumble. “In order to cut these heavy-duty materials after printing, you need an industrial router like the Verso and the accuracy of the OptiCAM system. In order to print onto special materials like glass, clear acrylic and dark materials, you need white ink which is standard on the TeckStorm.”

Also highlighted throughout the day was the new 8-colour Epson GS6000 Eco Solvent printer powered by Ergosoft RIP software. The print quality and colour reproduction certainly impressed the Open House visitors who were the first in NSW to see the machine in action.

“I was very pleased with the performance of the Epson GS6000 printer,” said Jeff Kline from Ergosoft. “Once profiled with Ergosoft, the colours were astounding and the Orange and Green inks certainly made a huge impact to the colour gamut.”
“Ergosoft has long been acclaimed for it’s exceptional colour management system and handling of multi-colour devices, which made it the perfect choice for Positive Camtec to drive our range of extended colour gamut printers for sign making and dye sublimation” commented Scott Donkin, Positive Camtec’s Colour Engineer. “The workflow is powerful and the colour results are second to none.”

“The first Epson GS6000 printers will be available in October 2008 and coupled with Ergosoft RIP software will set the standard for print quality and colour reproduction” said Trumble.

All in all the, the Positive Camtec Open House was judged a huge success by all visitors, and as verified by the large attendance, the Australian Sign Industry is ready to move with new technology and innovative ideas enabling them to bolster their portfolio of offerings to their clients. Positive Camtec and the special guests attending on the day were pleased to have made an impact in this regard and look forward to a bumper year for the industry in 2009.

Positive Camtec Attend Australasian Expo 2008

Positive Camtec were pleased to attend the United Franchise Group's Australasian Expo 2008 at Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast from the 3rd ~ 6th of September. The United Franchise Group includes the well known franchises Sign*A*Rama, EmbroidMe, Speedy Signs and Billboard Connection.

Adriano Gut and Robert Chemuel attended the exhibition on behalf of Positive Camtec. They thoroughly enjoyed discussing the latest industry trends and highlighting the amazing capabilities of the Teckwin TeckStorm UV Flatbed Printer and the Tekcel CNC Router.

Although the general consensus prior to the show was that UV Curable printing was only for low quality, short term signs, everybody was amazed at the quality produced by the TeckStorm and the range of unique applications it could be used for - in fact the entire booth was printed by the TeckStorm! Samples of all the standard signboard materials were on display, including corflute, composite aluminum, foam board and even acrylic printed in reverse with white ink for illuminated signage. A range of unique applications were also on display highlighting the versatility of UV Flatbed printing for all kinds of industrial uses - especially when the print quality is as astounding as the TeckStorm's.
